2nd Grade

 Second Graders are gaining self confidence as well as becoming consistently full of energy.  At this age, art skills become more differentiated and varied.  Working on projects that continue to be fun and focus on exploration keep their attention, continue to increase creativity and artistic confidence.  

We will be focusing on these skills and Standards as the year progresses:

• Understanding repetition, balance in nature and works of art
• Identify the elements of art in nature, the environment and works of art: line, color, texture, space and shape/form
• Learn the use of space using overlapping, relative shape and size
• Bilateral and radial symmetry to create visual balance
• Warm and Cool colors, use expressive colors to depict mood and personality
• Understanding beginning skills in basic tools, art making processes, different types of art (prints, ceramics, paintings)

Most importantly, we will have fun being creative and learning several different art techniques/mediums such as tempura paint, watercolor, clay, oil and chalk pastels, markers, colored pencils, printmaking and much more.
